Lutetium is a chemical element with symbol Lu and atomic number 71. It is a silvery white metal, which resists corrosion in dry, but not in moist air. It is considered the first element of the 6th-period transition metals (or, on occasion, the last element in the lanthanide series), and traditionally counted among the rare earths.
Lutetium was independently discovered in 1907 by French scientist Georges Urbain, Austrian mineralogist Baron Carl Auer von Welsbach, and American chemist Charles James. All of these men found lutetium as an impurity in the mineral ytterbia, which was previously thought to consist entirely of ytterbium. The dispute on the priority of the discovery occurred shortly after, with Urbain and von Welsbach accusing each other of publishing results influenced by the published research of the other; the naming honor went to Urbain as he published his results earlier. He chose the name lutecium for the new element but in 1949 the spelling of element 71 was changed to lutetium. In 1909, the priority was finally granted to Urbain and his names were adopted as official ones; however, the name cassiopeium (or later cassiopium) for element 71 proposed by von Welsbach was used by many German scientists until the 1950s.
Lutetium is not a particularly abundant element, though significantly more common than silver in the earth's crust; it has few specific uses. Lutetium-176 is a relatively abundant (2.5%) radioactive isotope with a half-life of about 38 billion years, and so used to determine the age of meteorites. Lutetium usually occurs in association with the element yttrium and is sometimes used in metal alloys and as a catalyst in various chemical reactions. 177Lu-DOTA-TATE is used for radionuclide therapy (see Nuclear medicine) on neuroendocrine tumors

Lutetium is an isotope that is suitable to be produced within a nuclear reactor, it is a real real reactor medicine . After irradiation in the reactor, the isotopes are processed in the production facility of IDB and then transported worldwide for treatment of patients in Europe, Australia , Asia , South America and Canada . Lutetium is essential in nuclear medicine for the treatment of patients with neuroendocrine tumors. They are mostly slow-growing tumors of a.o. the pancreas, the intestines or in rare cases the lungs.
Wider use of Lutetium in other cancers is continuously studied. For example, recently a first patient is successfully treated by using Lutetium in prostate cancer. ‘Because of the versatile application of lutetium , we expect that the use will be around five times higher’, tells Van Overeem . Lutetium is produced under GMP ( Good Manufacturing Practice) , a requirement for the production of medicines . IDB Radiopharmacy / IDB Holland is in the process to register Lutetium as a medicine in the EU, by the European Medicines Agency ( EMA ). NRG has a special irradiation facility in the reactor for the production of Lutetium. ‘With this facility NRG is well equipped to meet the growing demand for Lutetium in the future’, says Unger . NRG is the second largest world producer of medical isotopes . Medical isotopes are used for diagnostics (scans) , with (cancer) therapy and pain relief .

Lutetium has suffered so much that there is nothing left. The connection to this world is crumbling and or broken. They are dissociated and dysfunctional.
