Colloidal Bismuth
Metaphysical
Primary Chakra: All
Astrological sign: Aquarius
Vibration: Master Number 11
Rainbow colored Bismuth is excellent tool to use for focus, visualization and shamanic journeying. It can also raise awareness (meditation, journeying, etc) while providing grounding at the same time. It is a stone of transformation and change, helping to adapt with calm assurance. Bismuth encourages cohesiveness, so would be very helpful in group and/or relationship dynamics. Bismuth is said to relieve emotional and spiritual isolation, facilitating a state of oneness, connectedness and serenity. It’s useful when experiencing change, providing for calmness, vitality and orderliness. Bismuth facilitates the enjoyment of travel, and stimulates group and relationship cohesiveness.
Sciency Stuff
Bismuth is a silver colored heavy metal in nature which cannot express its crystalline structure without recrystallization help from humans (ie lab assisted). Bismuth does not crystallize naturally, because it is usually too crowded by host rock to form as a crystal.
As a derivative of salicylic acid, bismuth salicylate displays anti-inflammatory and bactericidal action, antacid. antidiarrheal, and to treat some other gastro-intestinal diseases, such as nausea. The means by which this occurs is still not well documented. It is thought to be some combination of the following:
- Retarding the expulsion of fluids into the digestive system by irritated tissues, by "coating" them.
- Stimulation of absorption of fluids and electrolytes by the intestinal wall (antisecretory action)
- Reducing inflammation/irritation of stomach and intestinal lining through inhibition of prostaglandin G/H Synthase 1/2
- Reduction in hypermotility of the stomach
- Binding of toxins produced by E. coli
- Bactericidal action of a number of its subcomponents, including salicylic acid
- Bactericidal action via a so-calledoligodynamic effectin which small amounts of heavy metals such as bismuth are toxic for a number of microbes.
- Weak antacid properties
Adverse effects
There are some adverse effects. It can cause a black tongue and black stools in some users of the drug, when it combines with trace amounts of sulfur in saliva and the colon to form bismuth sulfide. Bismuth sulfide is a highly insoluble black salt, and the discoloration seen is temporary and harmless.
Children should not take medication with bismuth subsalicylate while recovering from influenza or chicken pox, as epidemiologic evidence points to an association between the use of salicylate-containing medications during certain viral infections and the onset of Reye's syndrome. For the same reason, it is typically recommended that nursing mothers not use medication containing bismuth subsalicylate (such as Pepto-Bismol) because small amounts of the medication are excreted in breast milk and pose a theoretical risk of Reye's syndrome to nursing children.
Salicylates are very toxic to cats, and thus bismuth subsalicylate should not be administered to cats.
History
While bismuth salts were in use in Europe by the late 1700s, the combination of bismuth subsalicylate and zinc salts for astringency with salol(phenyl salicilate) appears to have begun in the US in the early 1900s as a remedy for life-threatening diarrhea in infants with cholera. At first sold directly to physicians, it was first marketed as Bismosal in 1918.
Bismuth is relatively little known in general; however, it has been known since the fifteenth century in Germany and was called by Paracelsus “Bismutum”. With very similar properties to lead, it could be called the “twin brother of lead”, but bismuth is considered non-toxic and used in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. It is really a unique metal, considered as a metal within the periodic table of elements, but has more similarity to semimetals than to metals. Bismuth replaces the formerly and widely used lead in EP-greases and EP-lubricants giving better properties to them, even using down to half of the metal concentration. Bismuth has very high synergism to sulphur, the oldest known element. So, the combination of the oldest known element sulphur with the newest “green and ecologically clean” metal Bismuth – is actually the modern and metallic extreme pressure technology – that follows the formerly used, during many decades, sulphur-lead-technology – but being non-toxic.
How to easily make your own
Simply perform the process of Hydrolysis using a piece of bismuth as the positive ANODE. I recommend ‘cooking’ it with electricity between 6-18 volts for 2-3 hours like I do with the rest of my minerals

*NOTE* No Pink stuff is added like in Pepto Bismol. This is a clear colloidal minerals that tastes just like water as do the rest of my minerals
